As a professional dancer, this scene is very shocking to me and *not because of his way of dancing, but what he transmits.* When he enters the bathroom, he does not know how to process the feeling of having committed a murder, so he begins to express it through a dance ritual. As the dance goes on, the Joker continues to dance but now in order to eliminate all the guilt he feels for killing those three people, and tries to convince himself that what he did is right. And finally, in the 1:18 minute we can see how unintentionally he ends up accepting evil in his soul and his movements begin to be faster and with confidence. All the feeling of guilt left, his ego rose, and his thirst for revenge is greater. Finally, when he look himself in the mirror, there is no return. His soul was completely poisoned.

This scene was the single most disturbing scene in the movie. My husband has significant mental illness associated with post traumatic stress disorder. The VA teaches tai chi in their inpatient psychiatry activities program. It hit too close to reality. Not that he has killed anyone of course but the impact of mental illness has been profound on our family. Seeing Arthur utilizing a method for calming that is actually taught in mental health care settings just took it to a disturbing level for me.

What if Arthur is dancing with joker in this scene? We just can’t see him

What makes this scene so powerful is the way Arthur combats his chaotic life. Arthur of coarse was there but the emergence of this other person emerged trying to comfort Arthur in the only way that would calm his internal and violent world around him. His dancing was like a mother who rocks a baby when that baby is in distress. Those moves were very reminiscent of Tai Chi movements which are slow movements to achieve inner peace and tranquility. This scene was simply breathtaking.
